India’s little citizens join the Billion Hearts Beating Campaign, inspired by Cine Star Suriya on the occasion of the first birthday of Apollo Children’s Hospital, Chennai. |

The hugely popular Tamil Cine Star Suriya pledged his support for the Billion Hearts Beating (BHB) campaign. The campaign aims at raising heart health awareness amongst Indians, and targets to avert the nation from earning the infamy of being known as the cardiac disorder capital of the world.
The Billion Hearts Beating campaign has been widely appreciated and has received endorsement from several influential members of society. The campaign is about securing our nation’s future. Our little citizens will define India’s future and their commitment to a healthier tomorrow is essential. At a special event organized on Apollo Children’s Hospitals First Birthday and inspired by Cine Star Suriya, young children joined the Billion Hearts Beating Campaign and made a promise to keep themselves, their family and thereby India heart healthy. Soon the Billion Hearts Beating campaign will encourage school children across the nation to join the march.
 Cine Star Suriya has supported the Billion Hearts Beating Campaign by doing a film that highlights the heart disease risk that Indians face and encourages all to take a pledge for good heart health by making simple lifestyle modifications. The film will be aired across popular cinema theatres and television channels.
Heart disease in India has assumed alarming proportions with the average Indian being three to four times more likely to have a heart attack than his/her western counterparts. The alarming aspect is that it is the younger 30+ generation, the heart of our nation's productivity and economy, are at a highest risk. Scientific evidence indicates 7 risk factors, which if addressed, can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease: Smoking, Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Lack of Exercise, Obesity and Stress.
